The Ward

Publisher: Coach House Books

This collection of essays focuses on one of Toronto‚Äôs earliest immigrant slum, now all but disappeared. The interior includes archival photos, maps, and paintings embedded with the text to illustrate the history and diversity of those who once called The Ward home. The cover riffs on the German edition design for Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle, which focused on a similar impoverished immigrant area of Chicago.
