The novel is neatly divided into two scenes: an unnamed man spending the evening talking with his ex-girlfriend about John Wayne, families, and their own histories, and later when he races through downtown Toronto during a catastrophic event to find his ex. The book explores contemporary masculinity – especially its sometimes violent undertones – so this image of a man fighting with himself fit the bill.
