Daphnis and Chloe

Author: Colin McAdam
Publisher: Biblioasis

A modern retelling of the classic Greek tale, Daphnis and Chloe are found as orphaned babies by car mechanics in “a city on an island in the Pacific that can only be reached by ferry.” The type-forward treatment reflects garage-style lettering as well as hints of grease and industrialization, but threaded through is a mosaic ampersand. All text was redrawn and decorated by me based on established typefaces, and I added in a frothy baroque ceiling fresco of Eros, the book’s narrator. Because behind all the motorbikes and gangs and drugs, this is a love story.
