This is a prequel to Battershill’s novel, Pillow, which I designed in 2015 (second image). I kept the same background textures, but instead of dadaist collage (which is part of the first novel’s plot), I went for a more simple, fun take: Pillow’s pet shark, Rigoberto. Pillow is a boxer preparing for his big comeback fight, but is distracted trying to rehome the large – and odd – menagerie of pets he’s adopted over the years. And then his friend, Sherlock, gets involved. Hijinks ensue.

So, the cover uses a light touch to reflect the smart-yet-pop sensibilities of the novel itself.
