For this group of essays about the history of one of Toronto’s most notorious poor neighbourhoods, we opted for a printing trick called 4/1: basically, in order to inject as much colour into the pages without the exorbitant cost of printing EVERY page in full colour, only a dedicated proscribed set of pages are rendered thusly.

The cover idea comes from old wayfinding maps one may see in a Victorian newspaper, or within the pages of a detective novel: street names superimposed  as if they are three-dimensional signs hovering over each street in the photo.
