Although the subtitle is provocative, the editors wanted to avoid a single interpretation of the word Refuse (is it about garbage, or about denial/gatekeeping?). I decided to shred an important, seminal book about CanLit (and promised the publisher I would never disclose what title) and arrange it as the letterforms of the title. It was a strange feeling to shred every page – both naughty and cathartic.
