book cover design
Publisher: Coach House Books
Author: Sina Queyras
Because this collection of poems so closely identifies itself (poem-by-poem) with Sylvia Plath’s Ariel
, it made sense to reference the cover of Plath’s first UK edition, designed and lettered by Berthold Wolpe
. I created an illustration of a used copy of that book, and proclaimed Queyras’s intentions by slapping bright yellow rectangles containing Queyras’s name and her ‘title change’ over top. The back cover closely follows the original edition’s back cover, which listed Faber and Faber’s authors and poets at the time, but I only allowed Plath’s and Ted Hughes’s names to peek through.
