This series of long essays (published as individual books) required a consistent series look that would also allow each individual title (spanning multiple categories) to stand on its own as they would not be shelved together in every store. After many test ideas, this template was the winner. The title, subtitle, and author name are placed in a superimposed box against a relevant cover image, with three small squares forming a subtle E on both the front and spine. Two Canadian typefaces – Gibson and Goodchild — were selected to complete the series look and reinforce Coach House Books’ commitment to championing good Canadian design.
The first few in the series were fully developed by myself, and then the image and colour-palette selections were taken inhouse.
