Scraps: Fashion, Textile, and Creative Reuse

full book design / art and illustrated books
Client: Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum
Authors: Susan Brown and Matilda McQuaid

The exhibit at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian in New York focused on three designers who are committed to the creative reuse and recycling of textiles. For the cover, one of those textile designers was able to provide us with fabric used to protect the tables while block-printing (achadas) from the Indian studio, Xylem, which we then had wrapped around each bound cover and foil-stamped with the title. The result is that every bound copy is unique: no two covers are the same. The interior showcases the three designers with essays, photos of their work processes and the resulting objects, including one double-gatefold section.
