Language, Capitalism, Colonialism

book covers / non-fiction

Client: University of Toronto Press

I wanted to find a way to explain how language layers itself with new words and idioms based on human interactions (through trade and/or colonization), so I came up with the idea of weaving together words. It also acts as a visual nod to the manufacture of goods (notably cloth, rugs, baskets… anything woven, really).

Then I wove together physical printouts of the title and photographed it for the cover.
